The Belmont Avenue Corridor Project Information Hub
Project partners, the City of Youngstown, Youngstown CityScape, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, and the Western Reserve Transit Authority, will complete a strategic development plan, followed by transportation preliminary engineering plans for the corridor of Belmont Avenue (State Rte. 193) that runs from the downtown intersection with West Federal Street to its lightly developed expanses north of the Interstate 80 interchange. The Belmont Corridor Strategic Plan is an opportunity to reconnect the stakeholders – the business owners, residents and community leadership – and to engage them in the process of a planned resurgence for the Belmont Corridor.

Why Belmont Avenue?
- Major medical thoroughfare for the Mahoning Valley – This project supports Mercy Health, the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, and the largest employer in Mahoning County.
- Dozens of medical practices/specialists/health care support services are located on Belmont Avenue. After years of decline and abandonment, there is a significant opportunity to help enrich the corridor and reconnect it to neighboring communities.
- The newly built Carl A. Nunziato VA Clinic opened in January 2021. There are 40,000 veterans in the greater Mahoning Valley. With the nearest services 75 miles away, the new VA Clinic provides enhanced primary and mental health services for over 10,500 veterans every year.
- Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport / Youngstown Air Reserve Station – the largest employer in Trumbull County and second largest in the Mahoning Valley, is located on Belmont Avenue in Trumbull County and serves as an eventual connection for this project. The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport serves as the home of YARS and provides private air service to local businesses and residents. Belmont Avenue is home to over 30 popular, locally-owned ethnic and family restaurants and nearly 25 more national chain restaurants.
- The Belmont Corridor Strategic Plan will connect residents and stakeholders with city leadership, while offering them an opportunity to create a sense of place along a key corridor, offering more than a movement zone for vehicles, but a way to reunite a once-thriving area with residents and adjacent communities.
